Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrand Harbour Breakwater Beacon.jpg |
English: The Grand Harbour Breakwater in Malta is a 370-meter long structure that protects the entrance to the Grand Harbour, one of the finest natural harbours in the Mediterranean Sea. The breakwater was built between 1903 and 1910 by the British Admiralty, and it has played an important role in Malta's maritime history.
The breakwater is made up of two arms, one extending from Fort St. Elmo in Valletta and the other extending from Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara. The two arms are connected by a steel footbridge. The breakwater is constructed from concrete blocks and hard limestone, and it is designed to withstand the strong winds and waves that can occur in the Grand Harbour. |
