Summary

[edit]
Description

Two flowers that appear on the South Rim in the early spring are (left) Fendler's pennycress or wild candytuft - Noccaea montana and (right) dwarf lousewort or wood-betony - Pedicularis centranthera A. Gray (with fern-like leaves).

Both plants are quite common and often flower as the snow is still melting in both ponderosa pine forests and pinyon-juniper woodlands. Both plants are also found on the North Rim of the park. NPS Photo by Michael Quinn.
