Summary
[edit]DescriptionGrand Canyon Lipan Point02.jpg |
English: The Grand Canyon is a steep sided gorge formed by the Colorado River in northern Arizona, United States. View from Lipan Point on the East Rim of Grand Canyon to the Colorado River.
(view due-north, looking down Tanner Canyon; the en:Tanner Trail is on ridgeline (unseen) at left). The Colorado River turns to west (at left), (out of view), and top of Temple Butte (flat, tilted) is at middle, upper left, north side of Colorado River, (Lava Butte (Grand Canyon) is out of view just left, and just below (lower elevation) of Temple Butte)-(the Redwall Limestone at bottom of Temple Butte identifies it; it sits on the (Muav Limestone)-(greenish) Bright Angel Shale-(slope-forming units, above the mostly horizontal cliff-forming resistant, darkish en:Tapeats Sandstone); the dark (thin layer) cliff lining both sides of the river-gorge proper, looking upstream, is the Tapeats Sandstone. (the 2 slope-formers accumulate on it: called the Tonto Platform)-(View Info: pg. 81, Fig. 13, View to the north from the top of the Redwall Limestone along en:Tanner Trail.-(a graphic) Book: Hiking Arizona's Geology, Lucchitta, c 2001, plus 2 Arizona Atlases.) The Chuar Group lies directly below the Tapeats (the en:Great Unconformity). Deutsch: Der Grand Canyon ist eine vom Colorado River geformte tiefe Schlucht im nördlichen Arizona, Vereinigte Staaten. Im Bild: Blick vom Lipan Point am East Rim des Grand Canyon to the Colorado River. |
