Deutsch: Frontale Ansicht des Grabdenkmals der Marie Sophie von Hessen-(Rheinfels)-Rotenburg (1722 – 1773). Die hochrechteckige lavierte Federzeichnung ist aus zwei Blättern zusammengesetzt, sie zeigt das 1781 ausgeführte Grabdenkmal. In der Sockelzone die lateinische Inschrift:
„Hic jacet serenissima, nobilis et potens Domina Maria-Sophia, comitissa de Starhemberg, nupta primum serenissimo principi Hyacintho de Nassa-Siegen, secundum serenissimo principi Constantino, Landgravio Hessio-Rhenofeldensi, principi Hersfeldiae, comiti Cattimelicoci, Deciae, Ziegenhainae, Nidae et Schaumburgi, supremi odini velleris aurei equiti, sacrae caesareae regiae et apostolicae majestatis vice-marescallo. Obiit Argentianae XII decembris anno salutis MDCCXXIII aetatis LI. / In aeternum amoris pignus mariti religio posuit / Requiescat in pace.“ In der darüber liegenden Frieszone ein Doppelwappen sowie ein seine Jungen nährender Pelikan. Als Bekrönung ein pyramidaler vasenbekrönter Pilaster. Davor auf einer runden Trommel das Porträtrelief der Verstorbenen, flankiert von zwei Putti, der rechte ein Kreuz tragend. Das gesamte Denkmal an einer Wand positioniert im Stirnfeld eines spitzbogigen gotischen Jochs. Laut der zeitgenössischen Beschreibung von Grandidier (Philippe André Grandidier, Essais historiques et topographiques sur l'église cathédrale de Strasbourg. 2. Supplément et appendice. Strasbourg 1868. Seite 27f) starb die katholische Landgräfin am 12. Dezember 1773 im Straßburger Bischhofssitz (Palais Rohan) und wurde im Schiff des Straßburger Münsters beigesetzt. Ihr Ehemann Landgraf Konstantin ließ bis zum August 1781 ein Epitaph in der Seitenkapelle (chapelle Sainte-Catherine du transept sud) ausführen. Als Bildhauer wird ein Pertois genannt, der mutmaßlich identisch sein könnte, mit dem Straßburger Bildhauer Jean-Baptiste Pertois (1733 – 1812), von dem sich das Epitaph für Jean-Daniel Schöpflin in der Straßburger Thomaskirche erhalten hat. Grandidier zitiert die Inschrift auf dem oberen Säulen-Postament mit: „Anglia me genuit / Educavit Austria, / Bis nupsit imperium, Gallia seplivit.“ Hermann (Jean-Frédéric Hermann, Notices historiques, statistiques et littéraires sur la ville de Strasbourg. Seite 385) erwähnt, dass das Epitaph wohl nicht fertiggestellt wurde, da der Auftraggeber mit der Bezahlung in Rückstand geriet. Gass (Joseph Gass, Grand Séminaire de Strasbourg. Strasbourg 1937, 2°) erwähnt die Beschädigungen am Denkmal während der Französischen Revolution und die Translozierung des Denkmals in den Innenhof des angrenzenden Priesterseminars (2 Rue des Frères, 67000 Strasbourg) im Jahr 1793. an der Südwand des Innenhofes befinden sich die ruinösen Reste noch heute.
