Description
English: Arms of Gould of Seaborough in Somerset (since 1896 in Dorset): Or, on a chevron between three roses gules as many rose-leaves of the first (Source: Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.) The Visitation of the County of Devon: Comprising the Heralds' Visitations of 1531, 1564 & 1620, Exeter, 1895, p.418). As seen on 1583 monumental brass of William Strechleigh (d.1583) and his wife Anne Gould (a daughter and co-heiress of Thomas Gould of seaborough) in Ermington Church, Devon. (see image[1]) Their daughter and heiress was Christiana Strechleigh who married firstly Christopher Chudleigh of Ashton in Devon and secondly George Cary of Clovelly. These Gould arms are visible painted on the wooden mural monument of Sir George Chudleigh, 1st Baronet (d.1656), in Ashton Church.
