to the exteriordesign. We are pleased because it offers younumerous unusual features that are rarely foundin any but costly houses. It is original, distinc-tive and good-looking wherever placed. The unique roof treatment combines well withthe style of living porch at the side, and still Provides for ceilings 7 foot 11 inches from theoor, which of course assures good circulation. The placing of the porch offers seclusion andcomfort otherwise impossible, for it need serveonly as an outdoor room, since the hooded stoopat the front shelters the entrance. The roofextending over the living room windows con-nects these two in a friendly fashion. The architect has improved the appearanceof this design by running the siding clear to thegrade line—exposing the foundation woulddestroy the present pleasing effect. The entrance brings one into the receptionhall. Here there is a broad open stairway andin the rear a convenient coat closet. And dontoverlook the fact that just back of it is its exact

duplicate opening into the kitchen. It is hardto say which will give you the most service. t From the reception hall you have a viewthrough the cased opening, across the livingroom, and then through the French doors ontothe porch. Since there is a window just at thefoot of the stairs this is an unusually light andairy living room, from which the dining roomopens. This is nearly square, of the size mostdesired in the modern house. The practically square kitchen has a kitchencase, design B, situated so that the worktable comes just under the window. The sinkhas an equally advantageous position. The basement stairway enters the kitchenand is next to the outside door. This ar-rangement will often save the spotlessness ofthe kitchen floor. Plenty of room is providedin the basement as it extends under the entirehouse, and four cellar windows provide thelight that is necessary. . In the upstairs you have a good sized bathand linen closet, and the chambers are all pleas-ant and livable. PAINT
