English: Gorakhkali temple located in Gorkha Durbar of Gorkha district. This temple is located on the top of the hill in Gorkha Bazaar along with Gorkha Durbar. This pagoda style Gorakhkali temple is very attractive. This temple was built during the reign of King Ramshah. Inside this temple is an attractive statue of Charturbhuja Gorakhkali. This idol is not always kept in this temple. This idol is placed on the upper floor of Gorkha Durbar. The idol of this Gorakhkali is brought down to the temple only on Ashtami and Bada Dashai of Bijaya Dashami, the great festival of Nepalis. Only the king and the king's successor have the right to see this Bhagwati directly. On Bijaya Dashami, the common people can also visit. At other times the doors of the temple are closed. On the day of the inauguration of Bijaya Dashami, a large number of visitors flock here to see the procession of Durga Bhagwati. There is a tradition of taking flowers and Tika Manakamana from Gorakhkali on the day of Mahasthami. This Gorakhkali Goddess is regularly worshiped by the Brahmins of Aryal Thar. The idol is taken to the temple only on Ashtami Tithi and Baradshah festival and there is a tradition of offering sacrifices after worship. At other times worship is done from outside at the door of this temple. Kali is brought from the south gate while Farkaudan is brought from the north gate. In this Shaktipith, King Ramshah used to do deity work only by visiting Gorakhkali. These Gorakhkali goddesses are also the deities of the Shahambasiya royal family. This temple was damaged by the great earthquake of 2072 BS and is now being renovated. |
