Description

Ta Prohm est un temple qui a été construit dans le style du Bayon (fin XIIème siècle-XIIIème siècle), sous le règne du grand roi Jayavarman VII.

Il était consacré au culte bouddhique du Mahâyâna (Grand Véhicule) et dédié à la mère du roi divinisée en Prajnaparamita (Sagesse suprême)

Il est parmi les temples les plus célèbres d'Angkor car c'est celui où il a été décidé de laisser un certain nombre d'arbres emprisonnant différentes parties du temple.

Cet aspect pittoresque est néanmoins remis en cause en raison des risques de destruction totale causés par la mort des arbres ou leur chute à la suite d'une tempête. Plusieurs parties du temple sont en cours de restauration avec le soutien de missions étrangères.
