[edit]DescriptionGopaleshwar Mahadev Temple Pharping Dachhinkali Kathmandu Nepal Rajesh Dhungana (4).jpg |
English: The ancient temple of Gopaleshwar Mahadev located in Dakshinkali Municipality Ward No. 7, Kathmandu District. This temple is a short distance from Pharping Bazar on the way to Dakshinkali Mandir.
After Satyavati's death, Mahadev carried Satyavati's dead body while moving around, and when Satyavati's dead body started to rot, there is a legend that her body fell at this place. Inside this pagoda-style temple, there is a sleeping Shiva linga made of black stone. According to Akro Kimbdanti, this linga was established when Lord Bishnu came to this place while on pilgrimage, seeing a cow pouring milk. According to Akro Kimbdanti, it is also said that the farmer, while digging his fields, saw blood coming out of a rock with the tip of his spade, and established the Shivling saying that Mahadev was there. Even now, the farmers of that region do not plow with oxen. There is a popular belief that snakes will come after ploughing. There is a tank at some distance from this temple which is called Gomti Kund. |
