Description We were greeted by this lovely flower just opening in the garden of my friend and host, Sanjeev Anand at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. Palampur is a small town in Kangra District situated at an altitude of 1200 m. and is known for its tea gardens, dating back to the middle of 19th Century. Though tea was introduced here from Almora (Uttarakhand) by Dr. Jameson Superintendent of the Botanical Gardens, the high quality tea from here is more popular and hence the town is known as the 'Tea Capital of North India'. The old colonial buildings in Upper Palampur, mostly around the small St. John's Church in the Wilderness give an idea of Palampur in its glory before the devastating earthquake of 1905.
