| Description |
English: An empty fisherman's perch in Carr Mill Dam as 46233 Duchess Of Sutherland head across the viaduct with the Cumbrian Mountain Express - the Liverpool start variation.
Carr Mill was enlarged to supply water to Britain's first industrial canal - the Sankey Canal. In the 1960s it was a leisure "resort" with a permanent fairground and, where I'm standing, a miniature railway. This disappeared in the late 1960s and it has been a centre for fishing, bird-spotting and powerboat racing - Merseyside's largest lake apparently. It was also one of several locations around and about St. Helen's where I somehow managed to avoid serious injury and/or death whilst doing what any stupid child would do - at Carr Mill it was wall of death cycling on a muddy clay bluff thirty feet above the water! |
