Grows abundantly in ditches, streams and pondsin the entire eastern and western sections of the United States. FlowersJune to November. Ludwigia glandulosa (Linn.) or Cylindric-fruited Ludwigia, Fig. i i,has larger, more acutely spatulate leaves than the foregoing, and is a veryabundant form in still water along the Atlantic coast line. The seed car-pels are either ovate or round in form. It is known to aquariists as WildLudwigia, and the sometimes crisped leaves somewhat resemble thecultivated L. mulerttii. Ludwigia mulerttii, or Mulertts Ludwigia, Fig. 120, is said to be aSouth American species, introduced as an aquarium plant by Mr. HugoMulertt.
