Maybe its in one of my shoes, said he; buttaking off his right shoe, it was not there. Your hair shall be pulled! she threatened,getting into a rage. Ha-ha-ha! heres the letter! he exclaimed,shaking it from his jacket-sleeve, and runningaway. If Aunt Stockel had caught the rogue, shewould have boxed his ears. But the old lady wastoo lame to hobble after such nimble legs. Soafter fretting awhile, she went into the house,and sat down to enjoy her letter. Now whatsaid the letter ? I will scold Nance! No,I will whip Gertrude ! No, I will go smooth myhair, and be polite to the mannerly young man! Now as the letter called Dame Stockel old, shethought of pulling out her gray hairs, to makeherself young. What a foolish dame !
