Und wieder flieht und mich mir überläßt,
Und ich dann, losgebunden, fest
Gebannt bin, immer nach ihr ziehe,
Sie suche, schaudre, wieder fliehe -
So läßt sie den zerstörten Armen gehen,
Ist seiner Lust, ist seinen Schmerzen still;
Ha! manchmal läßt sie mir die Tür halb offen stehen,
Seitblickt mich spottend an, ob ich nicht fliehen will.


Und ich! - Götter, ists in euren Händen,
Dieses dumpfe Zauberwerk zu enden,
Wie dank ich, wenn ihr mir die Freiheit schafft!
Doch, sendet ihr mir keine Hülfe nieder,
Nicht ganz umsonst reck ich so meine Glieder,
Ich fühls! Ich schwörs, noch hab ich Kraft!
