Summary
[edit]DescriptionGodwin Battery Remains on Kilnsea Beach - geograph.org.uk - 1170484.jpg |
English: Godwin Battery Remains on Kilnsea Beach, Kilnsea, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The Godwin Battery was built just after the beginning of World War I and was made larger during the Second World War. The material of construction was concrete which was very thick and provided protection from incoming shells from the sea nearby. At this location, amongst other things, were sited gun batteries, barracks, search lights and even a hospital. A military railway also ran from here along the Spurn Peninsula just to the south of this position. |
