286 godeys ladys book and magazine. DESIGN IN VELVET RIBBON AND BRAIDFOR A LITTLE GIRLS FROCK. (See engraving, page 227.) Braiding is now one of the most prevailingtrimmings, it being introduced in a great va-riety of ways for both ladies and- childrensdresses. The new way of arranging braid andvelvet ribbon is a great improvement to theeffect, with very little additional trouble inworking. In the pattern now given the broadlines which form the diamond are in the ribbonvelvet, about the width shown in the illustra-tion ; the pattern on each side of the diamondsis in fine narrow braid: the centre star is also in braid. The dresses for children are at pre-sent worn elaborately trimmed with both em-broidery and braiding ; and many of them havea very foreign effect, from the contrast of theircolors, and the accompanying clear muslinchemisette up to the neck, which is now muchworn by little girls from about the age of fiveyears and upwards.
