Summary

[edit]
Description Native, yearlong-green, perennial, slender, twining, and nearly hairless to hairy legume. Leaves have 3 leaflets, each on very short stalks and with obscure veins. The lower leaves have lanceolate to nearly circular leaflets (usually 1-5 cm long), while leaflets of the upper leaves are linear to oblong-lanceolate. Flowerheads are racemes to 15 cm long, with white to red-purple pea-like flowers to 8 mm long that develop into straight, narrow, hairless to sparsely hairy pods 12-50 mm long. Flowering is year-round. Found in many habitats, but most commonly in moist, often shaded, areas of tall pastures, woodlands and forests. Often found climbing up fence posts, fallen branches and grasses. Native biodiversity. Palatable and readily eaten by stock and native animals. Tends to decline under grazing (even by kangaroos).
