Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n unknown Built 1938 One of the 263 squadron aircraft transferred to Norway aboard HMS Glorious following the German attack on Norway on 9th April 1940. She was among the eighteen Gladiators flown from the carrier to the frozen Lake Lesjaskog on 24th April. Her active time in Norway was short lived, however, as the temporary ‘Ice’ airstrip was bombed and straffed by the Luftwaffe the very next day and N5641 was one of the casualties. She was recovered from the now liquid lake in August the same year and was stored in a lakeside shed until 1977. Fully restored in her own genuine 263 squadron markings, she is now proudly displayed in the Military Aircraft Hall of the Norsk Luftfartsmuseum (Norwegian Aviation Museum). Bodø, Northern Norway
