Summary

Description

NSF hosted a Global Summit on Merit Review in May 2012 at the agency’s Arlington, Va., headquarters that drew the participation of the heads of research councils from about 50 countries, including members of the G20/OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries and countries with emerging scientific enterprises. The summit concluded with the release of a set of common principles on merit review and the establishment of the Global Research Council as a virtual organization to continue efforts for international scientific collaboration. The council’s next global summit is scheduled for May 2013 in Berlin. Here, NSF Director Subra Suresh signed one of the ceremonial banners.
