Built 1873 The former Glen Williams Public School, a two-room brick school on Prince Street, which was built in 1873. This 2 storey brick building was built in 1873 as a new 1 storey, 2 room school house for students of Glen Williams and the surrounding countryside. The school was built on land deeded from mill owner Charles Williams, also in 1873, and was used for 75 years. In 1949 excavation for an addition to the school caused the collapse of one of the two wings of the building (the right side in this image) and the school had to be closed. In 1951 the building was sold and converted to a private residence with the high ceilings of the school rooms permitting conversion into a 2 storey residence. The outlines of the original tall school room windows can be clearly seen in the existing brick walls. |

Canada - All photographs (except those subject to Crown Copyright, for which see below) taken before 1 January, 1949 are in the public domain.
For works from after that time, or non-photographs, the Copyright Act states a copyright subsists for the life of the author plus 50 years following the end of the calendar year of death (section 6). If the work is anonymous or pseudonymous then the copyright lasts either 50 years following publication or 75 years after the making of the work, whichever is earlier (section 6.1), provided the authorship does not become known in that timeframe.
Works subject to Crown Copyright enter the public domain 50 years after publication, except for certain very rare exceptions (see COM:CCC).
