| Description |
English: Glen Manor House at 3 Frank Coehlo Drive in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, was built from 1921 to 1923 by H. A. C. Taylor and, after his death, by his son Moses. It was designed in the French Chateau manner by noted architect John Russell Pope after the Petit Trianon at Versailles. The grounds had extensive Italianate gardens and landscaping designed by the Olmsted Brothers, the sons of Frederick Law Olmsted. After Moses died in 1928, and his widow, Edith Taylor Nicholson, in 1959, Moses' son, Reginald Taylor sold the house and 43 acres of the grounds in 1959 to the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The Sister moved their Elmhurst School from Providence in 1961, but the school closed in 1972. The Town of Portsmouth subsequently bought the building, and the Portsmouth Historical Society was tasked with creating a plan for its use. This resulted in the creation of the Glen Manor House Authority, a volunteer-run organization which, along with a resident manager, rents the house for special functions such as weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, events and private gatherings.
