Having pounced upon the cause of allthe roar and hubbub, grasp her with fingerand thumb by the thorax as though youmeant to clip her. I always clip mine, ifneeding it, at the same time as branding,and with the bottle-neck curled tight in thelittle finger of the same hand draw the corkwith the other hand and apply a fairlyliberal dose of the liquid paint on top ofher thorax, and a little on the end half ofthe wing left undipped. One would thinkthat any bee, black or yellow, carrying adab of bright yellow paint on her thoraxnearly an eighth of an inch square wouldbe seen at once on the most crowded frame;but let madame jam herself between thecomb and bottom-bar, and she may hidethere all day before you see her; but thecolored wing seems to show up directly. Any way, after branding my first twentyon the thorax only, a weeks heavy weatherfollowed; and going over them to test thenew adventure, and to count the supersed-ings, I found none of the latter, and all too GLEANINGS IN BEE CULTURE
