Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Glazert Bridge This railway bridge still remains as an impressive structure and was a major feature of the Kelvin Valley Railway as it passed from Maryhill (near Glasgow) to the original station at Kilsyth (now replaced by the town's swimming pool!). The bridge was quite complex as it contained a small stone arch for pedestrians, connected to a metal overbridge - now removed - which connected to the stone abutment and the two arches you see in the picture, which cross the Glazert Water. The reason for the metal overbridge was to allow the passage of the Campsie Branch, which ran from Coatbridge/Glenboig through Lenzie and Kirkintilloch to Lennoxtown and beyond. This was the point both lines crossed, and nearby there was a short connecting link (called Kelvin Valley West or Birdston junction) that allowed trains from Kirkintilloch to run on to Kilsyth.
