Description
English: Glaze yard, Congo, ca. 1900-1915
  • Black and white lantern slide showing a glaze yard in the Congo, where glazes added to pots would dry before firing. Jugs and vessels stand in the grass next to large iron containers, colonial Belgian Congo (present day Democratic Republic of the Congo).
  • The faces of two young men can just be seen in the bushes in the background of the image.
  • This slide comes from a collection generated by missionaries working for the Congo-Balolo Mission , a mission begun in 1889 under the supervision of the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions that developed into the interdenominational evangelical mission Regions Beyond Missionary Union after 1900.
