Description
This is a photograph of an architectural monument.
It is on the list of cultural monuments of Glückstadt, no. 10444.

– Das ehemalige kaiserliche Postgebäude wurde nach einem Entwurf von 1896 errichtet. Es ist ein zweigeschossiger Backsteinbau über winkelförmigem Grundriss. Im oberen Stockwerk hat man die Postmeisterwohnung eingerichtet. Im unteren Stockwerk saßen die kaiserlichen Postbeamten.
– Der bahnseitige Flügel zeigt ein abgewalmtes Satteldach mit einem Zwerchgiebel über einem Erker im Obergeschoss. Der Zwerchgiebel war ursprünglich dekorativer gestaltet, ebenso wie der zur Großen Kremper Straße zeigende Hauptgiebel des Gebäudes. Der andere Flügel zeigt traufseitig zur Großen Kremper Straße. Er endet im Westen in einem vorspringenden Wandstreifen. Es ist der untere Teil eines ursprünglich vorhandenen Turms, der über das Dach hinausragte und von einer aufwendigen Dachkonstruktion gekrönt wurde. An der Ecke befindet sich der repräsentative säulengestützte Haupteingang, der sich zu beiden Straßen hin öffnet.

– Ab 2007 wurde das vorher teilweise leer stehende Gebäude restauriert. Die Post zog 2008 aus. Neuer Eigentümer wurden die Glückstädter Werkstätten, eine Einrichtung für Menschen mit Behinderungen. Unter dem Namen Glückwerk betreiben die Werkstätten im Haus auch ein Ladengeschäft mit Café (Stand: 2023).
