Summary
[edit]DescriptionGilach Ddu - geograph.org.uk - 300637.jpg |
English: Gilach Ddu Looking down on the former slate quarry yards and transhipment point between the Dinorwig Quarries 2 foot gauge railway system and the 4 foot gauge Padarn Railway connecting the quarries with Y Felinheli (formerly Port Dinorwig). By the time this picture was taken in 1976 the section of the Padarn line alongside the lake had been relaid as a 2 foot gauge line for visitors. During this time the Dinorwig H.E.P scheme was being constructed and the railway was used for the installation of one of the main underground high voltage feeder cables to connect with the national grid. This is one of the reasons for the large number of waggons visible in the sidings in this picture. |
