| Description |
English: Gig (longboat) racing at Solva (8) Gig (or longboat) racing takes place regularly in Solva. The races start and finish from the slipway at the boat club on Trinity Quay on the west side of the harbour. Teams from the club and from local pubs compete on a course which takes the boats round the inshore island at the estuary mouth. After the race, the prizes are awarded and the winners celebrated in one of the local pubs.
In this photo, the competing junior teams have arrived back at the slipway and their boats are being taken out of the water. |
