Exposition John Lennon Unfinished Music. Cité de la Musique (La vilette, Porte de Pantin). Paris
Gibson J-160E [Original ] [In English ] ————

John Lennon remained faithful to his J160E
(E for electro-acoustic) from the beginning of the
career of the Beatles until the end of his life.
The last version he used was in natural color,
without the characteristic gradient varnish
of the model.
————
Acquise en 1964 par John Lennon pour
remplacer celle qu'on lui avait volée l'année
précédente, cette guitare a subi plusieurs
changements esthétiques au fil des années,
Comptant l'utiliser pour la prestation télé-
visée de « All You Need Is Love », John
Lennon la fait repeindre en 1967 avec
des motifs psychédéliques par le groupe
d'artistes néerlandais The Fool (Marijke

Acquired in 1964 by John Lennon to
replace the one stolen from him the previous
year, this guitar has undergone
several cosmetic changes over the years,
intending to use it for the television
performance of « All You Need Is Love », John
Lennon had it repainted in 1967 with
psychedelic motifs by the group of
Dutch artists The Fool (Marijke
Koger, Simon Posthuma, and Josje Leeger),
as well as his Rolls Royce and his upright
piano. The guitar was ready for rehearsals
on June 24, 1967, but it would not be used
for the performance. He would have it sanded the
following year before adorning it with [engravings]
during the Bed-in in Montreal.

Epiphone Casino [Original ] [In English ] ————
Suivant l'exemple de Paul McCartney, John
Lennon a commencé à utiliser l'Epiphone
long. Cette Epiphone a suivi John Lennon
jusqu'à ses derniers jours.
————
Following the example of Paul McCartney, John
Lennon started using the Epiphone
Casino from the 1966 tour. He had
then abandoned his trusty Rickenbacker
for a model of guitar with a longer pitch.
This Epiphone followed John Lennon
until his last days.
————
————
The third guitar chosen by John Lennon
is a thin hollow body model.
Former competitor of Gibson, the
firm Epiphone was bought by this one
in 1957. This Casino was reissued in
