Summary

[edit]
Description

The unusual airport at Gibraltar is seen here as road traffic and pedestrians are stopped whilst a London-bound British Airways Airbus makes its' takeoff run.

The airport was built during World War 2 for the Royal Air Force (RAF), and is still owned by them to this day. The RAF control tower can be seen at top-right.

The border with Spain is close nearby and is just out of the shot, off at the top centre.

The city of Gibraltar is close enough (below and behind my viewpoint) that it's quite possible to walk there from the airport. For air enthusiasts it's a thrill to fly into this unique airport.
