Description
English: Renaissance medals in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Castle of Costanzo Sforza, Nuova Rocca (w:Rocca Costanza), Pesaro, c. 1475
Italiano: .... Alessandro Sforza. Dopo la sua morte, avvenuta nell’aprile del 1473, il vicariato di Pesaro passò al figlio Costanzo. Appena succeduto al padre, il nuovo signore decise di costruire una nuova rocca, destinata a diventare residenza in tempo di guerra e di disordini, speculare al palazzo di corte, da abitare in tempo di pace. L’avvio dell’opera fu celebrato con diversi medaglioni, il più celebre dei quali fu quello realizzato da Gianfrancesco Enzola, che reca il disegno della fortezza, con la scritta INEXPUGNABILE CASTELLUM CONSTANTIUM PISAURIENSE SALUTI PUBLICÆ. Ai fini di questa ricerca, è importante un secondo medaglione, che mostra una veduta di Pesaro a volo d’uccello, attorniata dalla scritta CONSERVAT[OR] URB[IS] SUÆ; nella raffigurazione la città appare protetta da mura, torri, e dalla nuova rocca, ubicata nella zona dove sorgeva la torre del Tentamento.
