Deutsch: Von den zehn großen Darstellungen aus bedeutenden geschichtlichen Höhepunkten der Stadt Hannover im halbplastischen Geschichts- oder auch "Bilderfries" am Neuen Rathaus in Hannover blieb eine unausgeführt: Geplant war ein Relief durch den Bildhauer August Waterbeck mit der Darstellung eines der zahlreichen Besuche von Kaiser Wilhelm II. in Hannover; es gab jedoch heftige Auseinandersetzungen über die korrekte Darstellung seiner Majestät. Das nicht ausgeführte Bildnis steht für das Ende einer Epoche: Nach der Einweihung des Neuen Rathauses am 20. Juni 1913 - bei der seine Majestät zugegen war - brach bald der in allen Nationen bejubelte Erste Weltkrieg aus, der Abdankung des Kaisers folgte die Weimarer Republik mit überwiegend anderen Wertvorstellungen ... |
