Description |
English: Bust length photo of a woman looking at the camera. There is writing in the bottom left corner. Gertrude von Adam Wenzel Pratt Lash (1908-2004) was born in Germany and earned her doctorate in philosophy from the University of Freiburg. In 1931, Trude moved to New York and taught at Hunter College in New York. She also served as a delegate to the World Conference of the International Student Service (ISS). In 1932 she returned to Germany and wrote for a liberal paper. When Hitler had the paper suppressed, Pratt and her husband, Eliot D. Pratt returned to New York. Trude later married Joseph P. Lash, whom she met through the ISS, in November 1944 and they remained together until his death in 1987. Trude Lash was very close to Eleanor, even working for the United Nations' Human Rights Commission, which Eleanor Roosevelt headed. In 1984, Trude played a significant role in merging the separate Eleanor and Franklin Institutions into one Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute. Trude had three children with her first husband, and with Lash, she had a son. She died on February 4, 2004. |
