Description
Deutsch: Gertrude Bendheim (geboren am 21. Juli 1916 in Bensheim an der Bergstraße; gestorben am 10. Oktober 2012 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Vereinigte Staaten) besuchte nach der Volksschule zunächst die Höhere Töchterschule (heute: Goethe-Gymnasium) in Bensheim, bevor sie am 9. Oktober 1929 in die Untertertia (UIII; Jahrgangsstufe 8) der Schule am Meer auf die Nordseeinsel Juist wechselte. Dort lernte sie ihren späteren Ehemann Walther Karl Halberstadt (geboren am 25. Januar 1916 in Frankfurt am Main; gestorben am 2. August 2004 in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA) als Mitschüler kennen. Ihre Eltern waren der Kaufmann Zacharias Bendheim II (geboren am 31. März 1879 in Bensheim; ermordet am 14. November 1943 im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz, Generalgouvernement) und dessen Ehefrau Bertha, geborene Hochschild (geboren am 9. November 1885 in Biblis). Gertrude war über ihre Mutter entfernt mit der S.a.M.-Hilfslehrkraft Anni Reiner, geb. Hochschild, verwandt. Gertrude blieb bis zur Schließung des Landerziehungsheims durch Schulleiter Martin Luserke im März 1934.
