English: German rail head captured by Americans near Cierges, France 3rd August 1918. Judging by the locomotives it was the recapture of a formerly French railhead. Recoloured version of NARA111-SC-021854-ac. The station of the narrow gauge railway at Cierges had three passing tracks (sidings) during World War I and a turning wye. It was probably built by the French, conquered by the Germans and finally captured by the Americans during the Second Battle of the Marne. Old-style German brigade wagons converted into auxiliary hospital wagons are on the left hand side. In the centre are two blown-up Péchot-Bourdon locomotives, behind them a Crochat Locotracteur, followed by a Schneider L G Locotracteur and presumably two more Péchot-Bourdon locomotives. On the far right is a Péchot-Bourdon apparently rendered unusable by blowing up the fireboxes. The overturned wagon is a Decauville Platforme wagon. Behind it a train of 3 Pechot wagons and a row of Decauville Platforme wagons. |
