English: German "Mistel" composite aircraft (Messerschmitt Bf 109 or Focke-Wulf Fw 190 and Junkers Ju 88 filled with exposives) are intercepted by USAAF aircraft. Note: The official description mentiones that the aircraft were attacked over Belgium by Lt. Bernard H. Howes. However, Lt. Bernard H. Howes was assigned to the 343rd Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, flying North American P-51K Mustang (CY-C, s/n 44-63745, ‘My Li’l Honey’) in a flight of four aircraft. While strafing ground targets at Boizenburg/Elbe, east of Hamburg, they encountered three Bf 109/Ju 88 Mistels of 6./KG 200, on their way from Kolberg to Tirstrup, Denmark, on 3 February 1945. All were shot down and two of the Ju 88 pilots survived. [1] |
