Description

Looking from my office at 1401 Wilson Boulevard toward Washington in 1965. Key Bridge is in the center, crossing the Potomac River from Arlington to Georgetown. The Whitehurst Freeway branches off to the right, near the D.C. end of the bridge.

Rosslyn Circle is in the foreground. This view would change rapidly, as the small buildings were replaced by 12-story office buildings. The Key Bridge Marriott (orange roof) had just been built. The bus in the circle is a DC Transit No. 38 bus, from Rosslyn to downtown Washington.

This was as far as a DC Transit bus could go. Each juridiction had its own public transit system. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA or Metro) would not be formed until 1967. DC Transit was still privately owned in 1965.
