Description Seated portrait of Sir George Grey, a top hat in his hands and a writing desk on his right side. In dress and appearance it closely resembles two other portraits known to date from Grey's time in South Africa, about 1861. Photograph of engraving. Grey was a soldier, explorer, Governor of South Australia, twice Governor of New Zealand, Governor of Cape Colony (South Africa), Premier of New Zealand, and a writer.
