The usual belief that they were formedwhen the strata were deposited and that they occur in large numbersthroughout the beds is therefore erroneous. Section of Carl He shale and associated formations at the Ionia Volcano, innorthern Dixon County, Xebr. Feet. Ijoess and till 15-35 Clay (Carlile), dark, plastic. Contains sulphate of iron, epsom salts,selenite crystals, etc., over the surface.
