Summary
[edit]DescriptionGeodetic control point, Richardson No. 2.jpg |
English: This (classical) horizontal reference mark was installed onto the rock in 1934 by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey. With an arrow pointing north, it is named "Richardson No. 2."
In their 1934 survey, it was described as the following: "On bare-topped hill, 18 feet east of center line of road. Marked by 16-inch square limestone post projectings 3-1/2 feet. Marked N.C. on north side, S.C. on south side, and 1813 on west side. Top of stone comes to slanting point or gable. Station Richardson is 104.272 meters (342.10 feet) from station N 14 DEG 19 MIN E. Reference mark No. 2 of station Richardson is set on north side of top of monument." Amazingly, it hasn't been frequented much by survey crews to recently. After 1934, the next update was in 1999, then again in 2003, 2006, 2010, and 2012; the last two visits being from the South Carolina Geodetic Survey. There are two other survey markers near it, being Richardson No. 1 (Classical Horizontal) and EA 81 (GPS and Vertical Control). I pulled all this information from the U.S. National Geodetic Survey website. |
