English: 1836 survey map of Gentilly and other eastern sections of what is now part of New Orleans Louisiana (then to the east of the city limits, from the Mississippi River (at bottom of map) to Lake Pontcahrtrain (at top).

Registered 4 June 1836 at the Surveyor's Office in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.

Notes: Area along the Mississippi River front was the most developed at the time, as a series of narrow plantations. Number 59 towards bottom left is marked "David Olivier"; the David Olivier Plantation House was at Chartres & Mazant in what is now lower Bywater. Just upriver #60 marked "Philip Bartholomew" is marked by the current Bartholomew Street.

Towards the bottom right along the riverfront, the Lacoste and Villere plantations are seen, site of the "Battle of New Orleans", now Chalmette Battlefield.

Bayou Gentilly and Gentilly Road are shown, with the high ground along Gentilly Ridge, much of the land is shown owned by the Dreux family. Lines indicate "Edge of Marsh"; much of the area was wetlands, and despite the squares indicating land claims undeveloped at the time and for generations after.
