Description

Dolmen de la Magdeleine ou de la Madeleine à Gennes (Maine-et-Loire).

C'est un des plus beaux dolmen par sa taille. Dimensions : 14 m sur 5,70 m hauteur moyenne sous le dalle de 2,70 m surface 80 m²

Le dolmen est constitué de plusieurs dalles en grès à sabals*.

Probablement de type angevin malgré l'absence de portique d'entrée côté est.

Il fut réutilisé comme remise à charrettes au 19ème siècle. Les vestiges d'un four à pain dans la chambre et d'un chambranle de porte témoignent de son utilisation par la ferme voisine.

Des fouilles réalisées en 1940 on permis de retrouver de nombreux ossements ainsi que des silex taillés.

  • Grès à sabals: Les grès à sabalites sont le témoin d'un climat tropical en Anjou. Les fossiles végétaux, feuilles de palmier sabalites de l’éocène (55- 33 millions d'années) figurent dans la formation dite des «grès à sabals».

The dolmen consists of several slabs of sandstone sabal *.

Probably type Angevin, despite the absence of entrance portico side.

It was reused as garage carts in the 19th century. The remnants of a bread oven in the room and a door jamb demonstrate its use by the neighboring farm.

Excavations in 1940 is possible to find numerous bones and carved flints.

  • Sandstone sabal: The sandstone sabalites are witnessing a tropical climate in Anjou. The Plant fossils, leaves sabalites palm of the Eocene (55-33 million years) are included in the so-called "sandstone has sabal" training.
