English: ST. LOUIS (Aug. 18, 2022) Cmdr. John Bear, the commanding officer of USS St. Louis (LCS 19), receives a pat on the back from St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Génesis Cabrera, after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at Busch Stadium during the 64th Annual Recruit Cardinal Company swear-in ceremony, Aug. 18, 2022. Cardinal Company is named after the St. Louis Cardinals, who together with Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Mid America and the St. Louis Navy League, have sponsored the group annually since 1958. Every year, Cardinal Company is composed of NTAG Mid America Future Sailors who march from the Gateway Arch to Busch Stadium, taking the oath of enlistment while on the baseball field. NTAG Mid America, part of Navy Recruiting Command, recruits the next generation of Navy Sailors throughout areas encompassing Missouri, Kansas, central and southern Illinois, and a portion of Kentucky.
