Summary
[edit]DescriptionGenerals and General Staff Officers (1872-1880).jpg | Generals and General Staff Officers (1872-1880), Plate XXXI, Uniform of the Army of the United States, illustrated, from 1774 to 1889. Washington, D.C.: Quartermaster General of the Army of the United States, 1890. Note: H. A. Ogden created 47 illustrations of the American soldier from the Revolution to 1888 and received $100 for each work. Although the figures in the illustration are not identified by name, it is obvious that the central figure is General William Tecumseh Sherman, who rose to command the entire US Army during President Grant's administration. Sherman commanded the Department of the Mississippi in 1864-1865. |
