Paniculata (White Ironbark). Wood hard anddurable; excellent for railroad ties; also muchused for building fencing, as it splits welland is lasting underground. Height 100 ft.Oz. 75 cts. Pilularis (Black Butt). Of rapid growth; oneof the best timber-yielding species, much usedfor flooring boards, railroad ties and tele-graph poles. Height 300 ft. Oz. $1. Piperita (Peppermint Gum). Timber valuablefor fence-rails, shingles, etc. Yields a greaterquantity of oil than any other variety, andis of remarkably quick growth. Height 300ft. Oz. $1.

EUCALYPTUS GONIOCALYX (See page 52). Polyantliema (Australian Beach, or Red Box).The timber is much used for mining pur-poses, and for all underground work, beingremarkably hard and durable. Also an ex-cellent fuel. Flowers good for bees. Thrivesin temperate and cold climates, withstand-ing much cold, and s.ucceeds in dry, hillycountry. Height 250 ft. Oz. 75 cts., lb. $9. Reg-nans (Royal Mountain Ash). A very scarcevariety, growing to a large size, and veryhardy. Grows on the hill slopes of the Aus-tralian Alps, near the snow line. Timber dur-able and excellent for fuel. Height 200 ft.Oz. $1.25. Resinifera (Forest Mahogany). A superior tim-ber of large size, prized for its strength anddurability.
