mineral collection. The cases occupying the middle of the hall contain the Morgan GemCollection, comprising the valuable series of gems and precious stonesalso presented by J. Pierpont Morgan, to which have been added fromtime to time noteworthy specimens given by other friends of the Museum. Tie Morgan collection includes the series of American gemsassembled by Tiffany and (Jompany for the Paris Exposition of 1889 andthe series of foreign gems and gem stones exhibited at the Paris Exposi-tion of 1900. The installation comprises examples of those minerals which are usedfor gems and for ornamental objects and consists of rough, uncut materialand of fashioned gem stones and carved objects. All of the specimensexhibited have been chosen with great care and are not only thoroughlyrepresentative but include many examples which are unique in size,beauty of coloring and perfection of execution, reflecting the very higheststandards of the art of the lapidary.
