Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsvlvanian, Per-mian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Eocene,Oligocene, Miocene, Pliocene, and Pleisto-cene periods of geologic time. Most of thespecimens shown are from American lo-calities. The examples shown are those par-ticularly characteristic of the various hori-zons, the object being to give an idea of thegeneral character of the life of differentperiods of the worlds historv. The specimens on the right side are ar-ranged to illustrate the classification and re-lationship of the plants and animals of pastgeologic times. The series starts with theinvertebrate animals, beginning with thelower, or simpler, forms and continuing to the highest. The specimens have been draw n from foreign and domestic localities anddifferent geologic ages.
