LIVING BIRDS THE WHITNEY WING(Index Plan, pp. 16-19, Floors IIV, Hall 19) The Whitney Wing of the Museum,newest section of our structure, was ajoint gift of the late Harry Payne Wrhit-ney, and the City of New York. It iswholly occupied by the Museums De-partment of Birds. Three of its eightMoors are devoted completely or in partto public exhibits. The main entrance of this wing leadsinto Whitney Memorial Hall from theNew York State Theodore RooseveltMemorial. The display represents birdlife on islands in the Pacific Ocean, cover-ing an expanse from the HawaiianIslands southward beyond New Zealandand from the Galapagos Archipelago andsmall islets off the coast of Peru west-ward to the Australian barrier reef andNew Guinea.
