Description

American axial-flow turbojet engine which first ran in 1947. Developed from the J35, some 36,500 J47 were produced and mostly provided power for the B-45 Tornado, B-47 Stratojet and F-86 Sabre. They also acted as secondary engines for some large piston-engined types including the B-36 Peacemaker, KB-50 Superfortress and KC-97 Stratofreighter. It is represented here due to its use in Portuguese Air Force F-86F Sabres. Museu do Ar, Alverca do Ribatejo, Portugal
