This family, in Scotland, first came into notice in theyear 1057, by its progenitor having conferred upon himthe old Saxon title of nobility, that of Thane of Cunyng-ham ; and the family thereafter continued to maintain ahigh social position, as^Viay be seen from their marriageconnections. The annexed chart, or tree of the fiimily, will assistthe reader in understanding the lines of descent of theCunyngham and Roberdeau families, and also give aclear view of the several branches of the latter fiimily
