Prof. Jones is the family historianand authority for most of the foregoing facts concerning theJones family. Peter and Rebecca Jones Current. Peter Current, son of James and MargaretJohnson Current, was born in Monongahela coun-ty, Va., January 27, 1797. He married RebeccaJones Feb. 6, 1817 She was born in the samecounty July 4, 1797. Her father was Samuel Jonesson of Jacob and Dinah Jones. With the teach-ing and example of such parents Peter and Re-becca Current, made their start in the Christianlife and they had daily worship in their home.After going to Indiana there was no church nearthem and they opened their home for religiousmeetings and for a few years it was the place forthe regular class, prayer meetings and preachingservices for the Methodists and each of the ninechildren were converted, married Christians anderected family altars. THE CURRENT FAMILY 21 birth, set out to found for themselves a new homein Indiana, traveling thither in an emigrant wag-on then called a wilderness carriage, now knownas a canvasback, in the west. Their father, James Current, and Peters father-in-law, Samuel Jones, accompanied them onhorseback for the double purpose of seeing themsafely through and to spy out the land. Onelooked after the comfort of the women and chil-dren and the other would ride ahead seekingsuit-able shelter for the nights, there being few tav-erns and farm houses were far apart.
